The only full-line knitting needle manufacturer in Europe, Selter has been manufacturing knitting needles in Germany for almost 200 years. They have a long standing reputation for quality craftsmanship and durability. The addi Click Lace Interchangeable Knitting Needles Set meets the exacting standards we expect from Selter.
These interchangeable needles works on all types of knitting projects. Even though the tips are for lace, they still work well for cables, stockinette and garter stitches, and other non-lace patterns. For years, my go-to needles have been addi lace tips because they’re so versatile – they truly work for everything!
The addi Click Lace Interchangeable Knitting Needles set uses a click-in-place connection to hold the cable and needle together securely. Some knitters have trouble connecting the cable and needle together at first, and if they aren’t connected properly they might come apart while you knit. You may want to give everything a good tug to make sure you connected it correctly when you first use them.
- Lightweight plated hollow brass needle tips allow for faster knitting
- Click connection between needle and cable means it’s unlikely to come apart while knitting
- Great for experienced knitters or knitters wanting more speed
- Pointed tips work well for all knitting projects, even complex lace patterns
- Longer size for knitters wanting more needle to hold in their hand
Is the Addi Click Lace Interchangeable Knitting Needles Set Worth it?
When purchasing interchangeable knitting needles, you should look for the same features that you want in any needle – material, length, tip, size, yarn, and durability. Additionally, for interchangeables, you should also look at the joins, or more specifically, how the needle fits into the cable.
Needle tips. Made from lightweight plated hollow brass, addi Click Lace interchangeable needle tips work-up stitches quickly. The polished needles slip under stitches easily as the tips taper to a nice sharp point.
The nickle plating could be an issue for knitters with nickle allergies.
Cables. Flexible plastic cables work well for magic loop. The lighter color of the addi Click cords make it easy to see stitches – a big help for the knitter trying to find that elusive yarn over during a long stitch count!
Needle. This interchangeable knitting needles set comes with a long tip – 5.5 inches.
Cord or cable. For the Addi Click Lace interchangeable needles, cable lengths include 24 in, 32 in, and 40 in. (Remember that when you measure the length of the cable, you must include the needle tip. For example, to make a 24 inch cable with the addi Click, the smallest cable of 18.5 inches makes a 24 inch cable after the tips are attached.)
The cables can be connected to each other to create even longer lengths.
Another great feature of the cables is what this brand calls the SOS lifeline cord. In the cable, a slot is made during manufacturing. It gives knitters a place to insert a piece of cotton yarn or floss for a lifeline. The lifeline is added while you knit – no more stopping while knitting to add the lifeline with a needle!
Don’t let the name of this needle fool you. They aren’t just for lace! Although the sharp tapered points work great for smaller yarn weights, they work equally well for other weights too.
Try twisted stitches, lace yarn, silk hankie yarn, linen and cotton with these nicely tapered and polished lace tips. You’ll be glad you did.
Sized US 4 – 11, the addi Click Lace interchangeable needles set includes 8 different sized pairs of needles.
Each needle and cord have the size etched or printed on the respective metal and plastic.
If you are looking for a smaller sized addi interchangeable, unfortunately you won’t find it. However, you can find addi fixed circulars down to a size 000. Not quite an interchangeable, but it’s better than nothing at all.
Addi interchangeable knitting needles makes joining a needle to a cable quick and easy. With a patented “click-in” mechanism, you simply insert the cable into the end of the needle tip, twist the two together and release the cable. Knitters find the join is much more secure and less likely to come apart than non-click methods.
A click-in join also means there are fewer parts needed to join the cables. With most screw-in interchangeable knitting needle styles, extra parts such as pins for leverage or grippers must be used to assure a tight fit at the join or to unscrew the needle from the cable. If you want a simple solution without a lot of moving parts, these may become your go-to needles.
Newer addiclick sets come with an addi Grip, which is a gripper that helps when changing tips. Not always needed, but there just in case.
Because of the type of join used, the cables with this set can’t be used with other brands. Addi cables only work with addi knitting needles, and vice versa.
With a longer taper and sharp tip, you’ll spend more time knitting and less time fighting tight stitches with the addi Click Lace interchangeable needle set.
Although these needles would appear to only work with smaller weight yarn, they work equally well with DK and bulky yarns.
Beginning knitters may choose to use less slippery type yarns, such as cotton or wool, until they get used to the rocket-fast speed of these needles. For more experienced knitters, the sky’s the limit on what yarn you choose and the speed you get through your project.
The addi Click plated hollow brass needles may be lightweight, but knitters find them to be quite durable. The polish on the needles keeps stitches moving as fast the knitter can knit. The supple plastic cables function as good as new when stored in the provided case when not in use.
As with any knitting needle, things happen. Metal can bend if smashed in a car door. Cords can become permanently bent if caught in that same car door. But, if well taken care of, these needles should bring you years of knitting pleasure.
Look & Feel: 4.5/5
Knitters love how the addi Click Lace interchangeable needles look. Some would say sexy!
Other knitters like the shiny smooth metal of the needles. Some might say glamorous!
While others just go for these needles because they’re built for speed.
As with any metal needle, some knitters may find that these needles can promote hand fatigue. However, if the rocket tips help you complete projects faster, your hands may not suffer as much.
Knitters like the lighter color of the cables on these interchangeable knitting needles as it is easy to see and count stitches when using dark colored yarn.
How Does it Compare?
Stitches don't slide quickly on these needles which may benefit beginning knitters.
Experienced knitters find the going slower as the stainless steel needles grip yarns a bit.
The aluminum used for these needles is more lightweight than the brass used with the addi Click Lace Interchangeable Knitting Needle set, but it isn't as durable as the addi.
