What We Like

  • Stainless steel needles move stitches quickly for faster knitting
  • Includes lifeline hole
  • Memory free cables prevent curling and kinking of cable
  • Pointed tip for lace knitting or knitting with smaller yarn weights

What We Don't Like

  • Yarn may slip too much for beginning knitters
  • Pointed tips may split some yarn
  • Cable may not work really well for magic loop
  • Two different size connections for cables

The Twist Interchangeable Needle is one of ChiaoGoo’s most successful needles for good reason. The revolutionary plastic coated steel cable makes knitting pleasurable. Instead of the traditional S-curve shape you’ll find in other interchangeable cables, ChiaoGoo’s cable is a gentle C-curve that doesn’t twist, curve or bend – you won’t have to fight the cable as you knit.

The ChiaoGoo Twist Interchangeable Knitting Needles are lightweight and the lifeline hole allows you to add a lifeline while you knit. No more starting and stopping to pass a threaded needle through each stitch!

The zippered case makes it easy to pick-up your needles and go anywhere. You don’t have to worry about anything falling out. With sizes printed on the elastic band in both metric and US sizes, it’s simple to find the right needle.

Knitters who habitually use circular needles enjoy the ease of using the ChiaoGoo Twist Interchangeable Needles. Although these needles may not be the greatest for magic loop, the benefits of the steel cable outweigh the stiffness for many knitters, especially those using heavier yarn weights.

Key Features

  • Plastic coated steel memory free cable doesn’t twist, kink or bend
  • Different sized cable connectors for seamless joins – no yarn snagging
  • Surgical stainless steel needle tips are less allergenic than nickel
  • Includes cable connectors for making extra-long needles so you always have a long enough needle for your knitting projects

Review of ChiaoGoo Interchangeable Needles Set

Material: 5/5

Needle tips. ChiaoGoo Twist interchangeable knitting needles, made from surgical stainless steel, taper into a screw-in socket for connecting cables. Knitters with sensitivity to needles made from nickel may have fewer issues with these needles.

Cables. A thread of twisted steel coated with red-colored plastic forms the cables. The memory free cables spring into a gentle C curve as soon as you remove them from the case. They easily return to a small circle to store them when your project is finished.

Length: 4.5/5

Needle. Although not the shortest needles on the market, the 4 inch Twist needles give knitters a wide range of project opportunities from baby hats to afghans.

Cord or cable. This set comes with 2 cables of each of the following sizes: 16 inch, 22 inch, and 30 inch. To provide just the right taper for the join, ChiaoGoo needles and cables come in two different size connections S (small) and L (large). Needle sizes US 2 – 8 require the S connection and sizes US 9-15 require the L connection.

This interchangeable set includes two connectors for making longer cables. For example, you can join a 22-inch and a 30-inch cable to create a generous 52-inch needle.

Tip: 4.5/5

Whit a nice long taper and a pointed tip, The ChiaoGoo Interchangeable needles take knitters from lace to bulky yarns easily. Knitters that use the needle tips to push stitches off a needle should find these tips easy to work with. And as these needle tips are not the sharpest points available, any knitter that uses their finger to push a needle tip through a stitch will find fewer sore fingers.

The pointed tips may cause some yarns to split.

Size: 5/5

The complete set of ChiaoGoo Twist Interchangeable has 13 needle sets from sizes US 2 – 15.

Sizes come laser etched into each needle tip. In addition, the carrying case to store the needles, has the sizes marked in both US and metric on the elastic band that holds the needles in place. What a good idea!

Joins: 5/5

The ChiaoGoo interchangeable needle tips screw into the red cables. You can use the included pin for torque to tighten the join through the pre-drilled hole on the needle.

There is a pre-drilled hole to add a lifeline while knitting. Simply thread dental floss or cotton thread through the hole, begin knitting, and watch the magic happen.

Another unique feature of the ChiaoGoo interchangeable needle is that there are different sizes of joins for different needle size ranges. A longer taper near the join means that the strength of the needle is compromised  because a narrow taper has less metal. Less metal means a weaker needle near the connection. To address this concern, ChiaoGoo changed the way typical needles to cables interconnect. Rather than have long tapers, they created two different sized joins: a smaller size join for sizes 2 – 8 and a larger connecting join for sizes 9 – 15.

Yarns: 5/5

Knitters find that these needles work well on all yarn weights and types. Try a cotton alpaca blend or straight silk; they all knit up nicely.

Knitters new to using metal needles may find the ChiaoGoo stainless steel needles a good choice. The smooth finish on these needles helps yarn glide easily, but with just a hint of grab, stitches in place.

Durability: 5/5

The surgical stainless steel used for making the needles should allow them to last a long time for any knitter. The twisted steel cable should last equally as long – it won’t break down like plastic and it’s less likely to become bent or kinked and thus, unusable.

Have animals that like to chew through the cables on your favorite needles? They’ll have a tougher time with these steel cables and most likely will stop chewing in a hurry.

Look & Feel: 4/5

Slick stainless steel feels and looks good; the slight grip on the yarn keeps these needles from being too slippery.

Knitters with large hands or those whose hands fatigue easily may find the 4-inch needle length a bit on the small side.

Cable connectors are quite small. If you have any issue picking up small items, this may be a problem. Some options: keep a pair of tweezers in your bag to pick up the connectors or form a piece of tape into a circle (sticky side out) and use it to pick up the connector.

Although not interchangeable with other brands, you can connect cords from Chiaogoo Spin interchangeables to Chiaogoo Twist interchangeables and vice versa. This way, if you want a cord without the steel cable on a stainless steel Twist needle, you can do that.

If magic loop is your preferred knitting style, then the cables with this set may be a bit too stiff.

How Does It Compare?

It's easy to knit fast with these needles.

The click-in join for needles and cables only works on addi interchangeables. They can't be interchanged with other products.
